Friend then wrote to the Home Office (H.O.) regarding the petition for redress, which was presented before them. Gentlemen in the H.O. (24057/13) informed him that the H.O. declined to interfere in the matter and suggested that Gladstone be informed that the matter is not one with which the H.O. is concerned.
However, it was open to Mr. Howard to address a further petition to H.M. if he so desired.
